Trumbling around, fumbling tickets and losing my stuff, one sock at a time.

On Sunday I was adopted by a lovely Spanish couple, Mariamar and Tony. They saved my life a few times, walked me around London, and mocked my inability to smile normally in photos (hey, I’m wearing pants - one life change at a time). We even ticked a few squares off the Monopoly Board. Yeah boy.

Highlight of the day, however, for which there is no photo, was seeing A REAL-LIFE SQUIRREL EATING NUTS. I almost died.

So after the excitement of the afternoon, I took a little wander through the city and down to Cardiff Castle, which is supposed to be the major drawcard (clearly whoever thinks that has never watched television, let alone the sci-fi channel). Cardiff Castle was gorgeous - wide green lawns, crumbling walls and even ancient graffiti. And it had a moat!

After I’d spent two hours in the Up-Close exhibit, I proceeded to spend another hour in the gift shop, trying to talk myself out of spending all my money upfront on collectable die-cast TARDISes and remote-control daleks. In the end I limited myself to one Cyberman bubble-bath, as it’s useful as well as deeply rad. And the nice man at the counter could clearly sense my distress at having to leave, so he gave me a free bumper sticker.

The Cardiff Bay Doctor Who Up-Close exhibition was IN-CRED-IBLE. I skipped gleefully all the way through, taking photos (once the other visitors had moved on) and posing with aliens and generally making a nuisance of myself. Actually, if I’m being honest, I spent two hours there and went through three times. And there were only three rooms, really.

My only concern is that I couldn’t get a photo with the angel statue, as it was all the way up high (but I never blinked, not once); however, the TARDIS and I are now acquainted and will perhaps meet for a drink later tonight. ZOMG!!!

I was pretty sure I’d have to wait for Doctor Awesomeness until I got to Cardiff — but then I got to the Portobello Markets in London on Saturday morning and was OVERWHELMED by the large amount of Who paraphernalia floating around the stalls.

But I made myself wait, because on Tuesday I would get all the Doctorness I could possibly handle. With both hands.

Oh my, I’m in Cardiff! I may come back with a slight Welsh accent.

Sitting around Singapore airport, having just flown in from Melbourne. Connecting flight is at 11.30pm. Over the next six hours, I should really do some research for my trip (even just the first stop would be nice), as I only know what I’m doing in Cardiff on Tuesday. Everything else is a mystery. But I know I’ll be playing with my new Tumblr instead.

In the meantime, this is where I’m at:

  • I’m very much enjoying how puffy my feet are from the plane trip to Singapore.
  • I slept a little bit on the plane, only waking once I realised that I’d drooled everywhere and all over the place.
  • I spilled an entire glass of water on my pants as soon as the plane took off. (Actually, first I spilled half of it, and then in my rush to stop doing that I spilled the rest the other way.)
  • I’ve already eaten all the snacks I packed for the plane.
